Grey matter for a green belt:
inovallée at the time of Sustainable development

A historical environmental concern

inovallée technopole au développement durable

Protection of the environment has been at the heart of its concerns since the beginning and there was a reason why the founding fathers chose an evocative catch phase for the first French technopole: " a green belt for grey matter " ( " zone verte pour matière grise " ) . Since then, industrialists and their partners multiplied actions aiming at optimising the relationships between individuals and their environment in all aspects such as: waste management, preservation of resources, transport improvement, etc.
Therefore, an Environmental Management policy started naturally in 2002 as per the reference document of standard Iso 14001.

Three areas were favoured:

  • transport: with the implementation of a PDIE (Plan de Déplacement Inter-Entreprises – Inter Company Travel Plan)
  • waste : opening of municipal waste sorting units to companies, implementation of a pooled collection of IT and electronic waste, a pilot operation conducted in the selective paper and cardboard sorting Métro
  • awareness of companies in terms of sustainable development: articles, newsletters, conferences, breakfast meetings, special events, etc.

In 2005, by becoming ino vallée , the association confirmed its corporate social commitment by turning around the catch phrase of its founding fathers. " Grey matter for a green belt " ( " Matière grise pour zone verte " ) happens to be much more than a catch phrase: it shows that Sustainable Development has become a major strategic development axis for the park and its companies.

2008, a new decisive step: Sustainable Development charter of the inovallée park

une charte de développement durable pour inovallée

With a view to add another step in its commitment with respect to the planet, inovallée launched a Sustainable Development Charter , which is now applied across the entire technopole. Its goal: making the signing companies committed to the development of a general eco-attitude, in the scope of a continuous improvement approach.
Management of consumptions notably in terms of energy, optimisation of resources, limitation of environmental impacts, decrease and recycling of their waste, but also compliance with the fundamental human rights, such are the main foundations of a corporate social responsibility that the inovallée companies will be greatly encouraged to follow.

The charter was officially launched on F riday 20 June 2008. The Town Halls of Meylan and Montbonnot as well as approximately 20 pioneering companies signed it for this occasion.
